If you want to configure your products according to the preferences of your customer at the order phase but the combinations of features make up thousands of different products, you can use the variant configuration function in order to avoid defining hundreds of inventory cards that differ only by a single property.
With the variant configuration infrastructure you are required to define the product only once and indicate its features. For instance, the different colors of a product constitute a feature. The sunroof in a vehicle model, leather or cloth upholstery, dress sizes, shoe sizes are each features to be defined for products.
Once these definitions are made the products can be reformed during any operation whenever necessary. When, for example, your customer indicates the requested quantities for each color and size of a certain dress in the order, you can instantly formulate the items in the different given colors and sizes and use the practical windows to quickly finalize the order.
The
bill of materials , defined for a variant configurable product, is an SBOM (super BOM) and can be programmed with
dynamic scripting. With this logic, the bill of materials knows that different raw materials are to be used or different operations should be run according to the specified features. The bill of materials will be instantaneously reformed according to the specified features in any operation that involves the bill of materials such as production or planning, and the operation will be processed for the respective configured product.
